Anybody Switching to ICloud for their Editing yet?

I had no interest in the Cloud ( though I have a feeling we are all going to get pushed into it by Adobe) due to their original ridiculous pricing. But now that they have priced this so nicely, with inclusion benefits and updates that wont be available to individual program purchasers, I'm going to take a serious look at it and start researching it a bit. Wondering if others have experience or thoughts?

As I understand it, the Adobe creative cloud system has nothing to do with iCloud, and it does not necessarily entail editing on the cloud. You still edit on your local machine. CC is really just a subscription model, where you rent their software by the month and get updates automatically. The software downloads to your computer, and you use it just as you would use the perpetual license software. The cloud just serves as a cheap delivery mechanism, as well as a way to make sure your software stops working if you stop paying.

I don't like the subscription model, but I will cave in and get the cheap photographer's version because it is worth it to me not to have increasingly out of date software.

This was the subject of a lot of postings back when Adobe put CC into effect, so if you search, you will find a lot of opinions about it.

I have taken up. The price was attractive given the cost of always updating. etc

How long they will support my MAC OX (Mountain Lion) and graphics card remains to be seen. I cs 6 and LR5 as my own fall back ...

I've just signed up for the Adobe CC Photographer bundle, even though I'm currently using Apple Aperture as my core app. I needed to upgrade from Photoshop CS5 and at $10/mo getting Lightroom and Photoshop seemed like a decent price point.

I think I'm headed that way as well. Already the CC version of CS6 has a blur correction filter that is not otherwise available, and I suspect they'll keep doing that with any enhancements.

As far as I am concerned, my data and photo editing computer is never connected to the internet. I have an old machine specifically for this.

Which proved useful recently when I had a severe virus attack. So I just formated this computer and started again. Nothing here to lose.

Any new software for me, which is to be used on my main machine, must come in the form of a DVD. And which I own!

I hear that. My computer is running poorly, my utility programs say it's perfect and don't help, but I am reluctant to start the Cloud subscription until I get the instability fixed. Prior to this, I've never purchased software that didn't provide a DVD, and it makes me nervous.

I downloaded every version of Adobe software from CS4 onward, rather than having a physical copy. Not having a physical disk is no real disadvantage other than the download time the first time round. Backups are stored by Adobe on their servers, so easy to upgrade (but you do have to deactivate the software running on the old machine first.

Just thought I'd chip in with a few things for clarity.

- iCloud is an Apple thing - it's just trade name for storage space Apple make available on their servers for their members and their devices to store stuff like backups & purchases, and to synchronise data and settings between devices. It's actually getting quite sophisticated (I use it quite heavily).

- I'm the same as Manfred - haven't received any copies of Photoshop on CD/DVD since about CS3. Nothing to fear though; for CS3 through to (off memory) CS6 you could either run the 1GB+ setup set of files from a DVD or you could download the exact same file(s) from Adobe's server and burn that to a DVD for backup if you wanted (or store it on your hard drive). From that perspective it's just a delivery mechanism. The advantages are that you can get your product up and running without having to wait for a DVD to arrive in the post - that's about it really.

- Adobe Creative Cloud took it a step further, but nothings really changed at heart - the program is still installed locally (no DVD to wait for) - the only difference is that your licence to use the software expires after a certain time, and the software has mechanisms built in to enforce that - so once a month or so the software checks with supreme command and re-activates itself if your account is in good standing. That's it. There seems to be a LOT of confusion about where the software is installed (it's on your PC like it always has been) and where the images are saved (on your PC like they always have been). The only caveat to that is that they ALSO now give you the option of storing some of your images on their servers (where they'll ensure they're backed up) (and where it makes it easier for you to share if you so wish).

I didn't get this "cloud thing" initially either (and I'm in IT!). But now I do - and it's great. I used to run my own Microsoft Exchange (mail server) but a few years ago I switched to (cloud-based) Google Mail (and switched my server off) - the cloud solution has so many advantages over my own server that it's just ridiculous (and it's FREE!). I now use "the cloud" for many things - wouldn't change for love nor money as it makes my like so so so so much easier to be able to access information no matter where in the world I am.
