    Low Memory?

Hi, I have CS 6 along with L/R 5 and Photomatix 5 open while working on an image, there are three RAW files open in CS 6 but when I try to merge to HDR with Photomatix from Lightroom I get a message that low on memory close Photoshop CS6 yet I have 8GB of memory installed along with an additional 100GB separate on second hard drive that I use for Photoshop scratch disc.
Maybe got a setting wrong somewhere but would be diving in the dark to find it!!
    Any Help
    Thanks
    Russ

you say 100GB free on another drive, 100GB, are you sure as that is less capacity than my tablet, I have only 8GB on my PC but work with three 4TB drives

I have always found that PS works best if the scratch disk is on a partition of the same drive as the program. Designating an external drive as scratch seems to slow things right down, especially on my iMac. Just my 2c worth...

Russel - what else is running on the computer? Sometimes background software (thinking of Anti-Virus, for example) that can be a real processor and memory hog.

What OS and OS version are you running?

    Hi, Thanks for the replies
    I run win 7 64bit
2 X 120GB SSD's has all the OS and software programs on one of them (ie the C drive)
    2 X 250GB SATA drives
ALL drives are internal (none external drives)
The 100GB scratch is on one of the 250GB discs
All photos along with softwares that I have bought as downloads and stored on the other 250GB drive.
Computer is not used for anything else except photography and only conects to the net for software updates or purchases.
    Thanks
    Russ

    Re: Low Memory?

I ended up adding additional RAM (went from 8 GB to16 GB) to my machine after I went to PS 6 (Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit). Either PS 6 was more memory intensive or my workflow changed as I found far too much swap drive activity.

It's not nice to post a thread title that describes my mental capacity.

    Re: Low Memory?

I had exactly the same problem including some of the tools in CS6 lagging occasionally. My machine runs W7 64 bit also but I have 16Gb of Ram and still suffered until some one, I think it was Manfred, mentioned that CS6 uses a lot more of the available graphics memory than its predecessors. I only had a fairly basic graphics card installed with 256MB of graphics memory. I took the plunge and replaced it with a card that had 2GB available and haven't had a problem since. This or if you are only using the integrated graphics on your motherboard (which shares your RAM), might be the source of the problem. For what it's worth, I hope this helps.

I usually reboot the computer, only open the necessary files for the transformation.

    Re: Low Memory?

    This from Adobe:

The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB. Photoshop 13.1 cannot display 3D features if you have less than 512 MB of VRAM on your video card.
I just ordered a new computer with 512, so I hope it is enough.

Am I right in seeing that your storage is as little as a total of less that 1Tb, you really need to upgrade your pc and storage
