missed opportunity....
Well, I'm a little sad because today would have been a great day for me to experiment with my camera. It's a snowy day here where I live. It looks gorgeous, the snow is falling so nice and softly. I was running late this morning to work and didn't get a chance to grab my camera bag, so at home it sits while I'm sure a good learning experience for me passes by lol. I work out of the town I live and I carpool, so can't just go get my camera. With these winter hours, it'll be dark when I get home. I have an hour break on my workdays which is when I would have the time to play with my camera during the daytime. Oh well, woe is me haha, I'm sure another good experience will roll along again and I'll be ready (hopefully haha)! A question I had also though, how do any of you shoot outdoors if there is snow or rain falling? I know my camera can't get wet, so what do you guys do?

Some cameras are weathersealed, but many aren't. You can get plastic covers for them, but I don't often use them. I once spent an much of a day shooting under an umbrella.

Where I live, rain in the winter is normal (it's actually snowing here right now - a rarity).
I use the Kata E-702. Very happy with it. It's not cheap, but then neither is my gear.

Re: missed opportunity....
Far too many people pamper their gear these days
I shoot for pleasure and money, take a carrier bag with you, cut a hole large enough for the lens in the bottom and when you are out slip the camera in it with the lens sticking out, cheap efficient rain cover
When you take your gear in, allow it to dry naturally

I agree with Glenn. I once spent ten days on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula and it rained every day. The locals called it the "year without summer". My Kata R-702 cover let me shoot without getting my gear wet...

It also helps to have a lens hood. They are made to shield the lens from unwanted light reflecting off the lens from the sides/top. also are good protection incase you bump into something the the business end of the lens.
