    Colin asked for red wine

Colin suggested that I make a companion photo of this image to include red wine. Like the other photo, this one was made by releasing the shutter only once.

The wine is 2007 Tinto Mencia "Carracedo" produced by Bodega del Abad, which is located in the Bierzo region of Spain. That's the most famous area for making wine from Mencia grapes. I got this highly rated wine (93 by Wine Spectator and 90 by Wine Advocate) on the cheap. Trust me that not a drop was wasted making the photo; my wife and I are sharing this glass at the very moment that I am starting this thread.

The only area of the image that is not in color is the very bottom of the large bowl. I had to desaturate that area to eliminate the highly distracting prismatic diffraction that produced the entire spectrum of visible color throughout that area of the image.

Thanks for the great idea, Colin!

Mike, I like this image. I have a suggestion that you can take for what it is worth. What about a wine glass on its side with some fake wine (i.e. colored water) that looks like it has come from the glass or you could just tip over the glass with the fake wine in it to see what kind of pattern you get.
Just a suggestion or am I completely out of my mind.

Another beautiful shot with the glasses Mike. I find that the wine in the glass really adds to the image as the shape it adds to the glass beautifully complements the shape of the glasses.

    Another nicely done image.

Great work Mike, as usual, I cannot add anything useful.

I do hope that is with two straws, so as not to move the glasses

OK Mike - next idea ...

How about one - profile view - closeup - of a glass - wine - and a pair of (heavily lipsticked?) lips taking a sip?

Re: Colin asked for red wine

Thank you everyone, but I'm actually not happy with this. Soon after I posted it, I realized that I don't have any separation between the bottom of the small wine glass and the background that exists in the capture. I messed something up in the post-processing and will attend to that soon. Once I do, I'll replace the current image with the improved image.

Sorry, Colin, but you really don't want to see me wearing heavy lip stick.

Definitely not - you just keep behind the camera where you do your best work!

I don't suppose you want to know that I do my best work behind the camera wearing fire engine-red lipstick.

    Bruce,

Sorry that I somehow overlooked your post. I have added your very fine idea to my shot list. It's a long shot list, so I don't have any idea when I'll get to it. When I do, it will be noted that it's your idea. You came up with a great idea about broken glass awhile back, so keep 'em coming!

Mike, in my opinion, this is by far your best 'glass' shot. It is my favourite, at least. Nicely done.

Man you come up with some ideas. This is cool.

Where I come from all the good wines have the word "berry" somewhere on the label

    Mike,
I have mixed feelings about this photo. The good feeling is that I REALLY like it. Of course the execution is top notch and I really like the centered symmetrical composition. Very creative stuff you do. Now the bad feeling is that I've been trapped in the house for days due to an ice storm and it's just cruel that I've seen this tonight as I ran out of wine 2 days ago.

Definitely a big problem worth allocating all of your resources to fix.
