Free program that does layers/color channel swapping?

Hi all. I currently have LR 4 which I love, but I have been experimenting with Infared Photography and LR does not have a way to swap color channels. I was looking for a totally free processing program that allows color channel swapping AND supports layers. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? If not, I was going to purchase PSE. I know a lot of people say "Just try....." And list a dozen or more free programs out there, but I simply don't have the energy, time or bandwith to download a bunch of free programs and hope they do what I need them to do.

The Gimp. Here's a tutorial on using it to do the IR red/blue channel swap thing. Channel mixer, layers, no sweat.

The Gimp is the open source alternative to Photoshop.

Thanks for the tip, Kathy. I don't know why LR has placed the Infared filter in the program with no way to process it. It makes me sad.
