    Colvin Run Mill in wintertime

Colvin Run Mill located near my home is a gristmill that was built in the early 19th century and restored in the 20th century. We had an ice storm Monday morning, so I went there hoping to see some attractive ice. Unfortunately, most of it had melted by the time I arrived. We're supposed to get a few inches of snow Tuesday morning so I may return.

When I was trying to find an interesting composition for Photo #1, I was wondering why I felt compelled to use a completely different view than when I had photographed the property four years ago. Upon reviewing the photo shown below captured in 2009, I realized that the uprights of the split rail fence have now been removed, which completely changes the compositional possibilities. The photo shown below was on my holiday card that year.

Prior to today I had never successfully photographed the waterwheel. Though my main reason for returning to the mill was with the hope that ice would be dripping from the wheel, that was not to be. Even so, I'm glad that I finally got a couple of keepers of this working waterwheel (though it wasn't being used when I was there).

I really like the last one - the close up of the wheel, great shot.

1,2&4 for me Mike. Nothing wrong with no.3 but the others stand out a bit more. Icicles in 4 (I guess, with a slightly different viewpoint) would be really interesting.

Nice series...although all of them are all dramatic, I really like #3 and 4.
