Sweaty palms, dry mouth, trembling...the Great White has arrived....

I keep thinking of all kinds of things I could write here. But really, I am kind of at a loss. Basically I'm just freaking out right now but wanted to share the excitement (and a tad of terror). No matter how many videos I watched, or how many photos I looked at, or what measurements I looked at with a ruler...none could prepare me for the real thing. WOW. WOW WOW. It's BIG.

Sweaty palms, dry mouth, trembling...the Great White has arrived....

It would not seem as big if you put a larger camera on it

Too bad I can't shoot until the weekend!!! (it gets light outside as I arrive at work, and gets dark as I leave. Ah, the joys of fall and winter) Oh well, I need to dial in the custom settings into the new camera body anyway.

    Well done!

I'm a bit surprised you bought it with the Version III being $7999 and shipping 19 Dec 13 though.

Just set it up at one end of the house and put your subject at the other end.

You know you bought something special when a custom hard case is included. Much as I'd like to try some of the Big White Primes, a three-day rental costs as much as my most expensive lens. Good thing I don't shoot wildlife.

Tracking a moving subject should be quite interesting.

Not to worry, Matt. You'll get used to it pretty quickly. And as soon as you see the first results from a real field shoot, all of the cost and the difficult logistics will be worth it. There's no substitute for truly good glass. Congrats.

Thanks for posting this, Matt. I showed your photo to my wife and told her how much the lens costs. She is now very grateful to me that I haven't asked for permission to buy anything nearly that expensive.

South Africa, Iceland, god knows what other places - cost ultimately will come to the same, probably much more. But of course wife gets to go and both will have priceless memories. At least Matt can re-sell. haha

ps - forgot to add cost of breaking expensive glass.
