As 2013 draws nearer and nearer to a close, I thought I'd invite members to post the single one image that they created in the last year that means the most to them. It might be their best shot, or it might be special for other reasons -- I'll leave it up to you.
I'll go first ...
This is the house I grew up in, some 50+ years ago. It was built by my Mum and Dad - and when I say "built by Mum and Dad" I don't mean "they had it build for them", I mean they actually built it themselves - from timber that they milled themselves - in a sawmill they built themselves (driven off the tractor PTO) - milled from trees Dad planted on the family farm when he was a kid. While they were building the initial stages they stayed in a caravan that they built themselves. In later years Dad added a pool; we couldn't get a digger down the drive so it was "out with the spade and wheel-barrow to create a 22,000 gallon pool. I guess you could say that they we're one of the DIY generation; all without a mortgage too.
Dad passed away over 20 years ago, but Mum hung in there until early this year - remaining in the house for all but the last 4 or 5 months - well into her 90's. So after 60+ years, the house needed to be sold -- all that's left now are the photos and memories. I was able to stay there one last time last Christmas, so took the opportunity to take some last photos. This particular shot is a 5 photo HDR composite shot into the morning sun, early in the morning. This is the view I'd get whenever turned the last corner of the driveway returning home. It's almost been a year now since I was last there, but it still almost seems surreal to think that someone else owns it now.
I hope it brings them as many memories and good times as it brought me. Cheers Mum & Dad -- thanks for everything. You done good.
