Barn Owl at Bear River Bird Refuge 12/11

I finally was able to get out of the house and to the bird refuge where I was originally photographing a roughie, but saw the barn owl and found it to be much more impressive... It stared at me for a minute before taking off, so this was all I was able to get...I like it though.

Even with the twigs in front of it...

I like it. You did good with the whites. Nice behavioral shot of a cool looking bird.

A beautiful raptor. nicely done. I got a chance to shoot a barn owl last spring from my canoe thought I would share it.

The colors look good to me . Your owl seems to blend to the background a little , a tiny increase on the blacks might give it a touch of separation. maybe at the risk of looking authentic though. I really like your shot as you posted it. Look forward to seeing more.

Nice owl. I think not muted. Just such a similar set of tones and hues as the background. Not much for you to do about that. Part of the fun, and trial, of shooting nature is making the best of what you get. I spent a recent day at BRR and came nowhere near such a success - a variety of swimming ducks and some teensy tundra swans shot from a good half mile off. Be happy... you did good!

Thanks! Well I asked because I didn't realize photoshop was saving the images as prophoto color profile, not sRGB, so when I was going to print they turned out all muted because the program didn't recognize the profile; anyway, I changed it to sRGB and glad the color on the web isn't affected by the profile. *phew*

And yeah, the colors on the barn owl and habitat are similar, nothing can really change that unless I had shot from the ground up and got some of the sky; but I like the surroundings; goes to show how animals try to blend in with their environment. And by BRR do you mean Bear River Refuge?
