He's definitely "the real deal". Another "real deal" is Jay Maisel; he's getting pretty old now, but his wisdom and experience is just phenomenal. I watched a couple of Kelby training courses featuring a couple of days with Jay and - although I have the highest regards for Scott as a photographer, author, and businessman, Jay was on another level again.

He's definitely "the real deal". Another "real deal" is Jay Maisel; he's getting pretty old now, but his wisdom and experience is just phenomenal. A video with Scott Kelby, featuring Jay Maisel was probably the first 'tutorial' on photography I watched after getting excited about photography a few years ago. It was awesome. And so I did some more research on him. I was shocked to find out that some people don't accept his work because of his 'personality'. I mean really? In this day and age? His work speaks for itself, and if he's a little gruff, who cares? Probably a lot of it stemmed from his lawsuit for that famous Miles Davis infringement....

PS - have you seen the building he lives in?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germani...%28New_York%29 Looks awesome!!! I think he owns the whole thing!

He reminds me of me in some way

(but not others!)

To be honest, a lot of his photos I wouldn't pay for, but his eye for recognising a shot is 2nd to none - and his knowledge could only have come from a lifetime of experience.

He seems to be the kind of guy who will share what he knows willingly - at a price (which is fine), but doesn't suffer fools lightly at any cost.

Is there a difference between fearlessness and recklessness? On one hand you have someone willing to risk their life, but always thinking safety, and on the other hand you have someone who feels invincible. Have any of you risked your life to get a photograph? I'm guessing, the most dangerous situation you can find yourself in; is the one where there is no one else around.

The maintenance guy's job also fits the bill.

Risked my life? No - never.

Worst would be getting into physically uncomfortable situations like waders and 3 feet of water or lying on boulders or getting savages by sand flies.
