I believe you're dialing in the right skill level. I think you have a great composition, the BG is nicely OOF and overall a good image (although you might try to tone down the whitishness in the BG below the main leaf).
You may have reached the ability of your camera here. Spidey is a bit soft and for a shot like this you need tack sharp focus.
Of the images you've posted of close-up insects et al. I think this is your best effort yet.

It certainly jumped to get out of my camera's lens. So far i have only found two types but I am sure there are more in the yard. This one caught my eye because in the sunlight it shine like gold.

It is getting close. I agree about toning down the bottom right. I think this shot shows more of the cameras potential. I simply lined up the shot and started clicking. This was a very lucky shot. When I can do this with skill instead of luck...
