Some cockatoos for Bobobird and a corella and a very peeved butcher bird.

Bobobird asked me to post some cockatoos shots since I had mentioned that I was able to get very close put to them in my garden. So here are three that I took this morning. Again the aim at the moment is not to show the birds interacting with their environment but rather the details that getting up very close allows. I have also included a shot of a corella in evening light that I took a little while ago And I couldn't resist posting one of my favs. This butcherbird got caught in a storm and came to our covered area for shelter but he is seriously unhappy at being wet. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them. BTW the cockatoo who is all fluffed up is not doing it as a feather clean but rather as preparation for and part of the routine for, now how do I put this delicately? I know, contributing to the mess that I have to clean up every day. Don't know why they fluff themselves up first, but they always do.

Wow, excellent shots. I like them all and of this quality? Very little seen anywhere.

Fluff up - yes that is sometimes a momentary thing no? Happens most times when it is a teeny bit excited by a presence that it is not quite sure about. That is my understanding anyway. Please correct if mistaken. Thanks.

Glad you like the pics. Yeah the fluff up only lasts a few seconds. I most often see it just prior to them pooping or more accurately as part of the process, maybe its a muscular thing or maybe its a way of getting their feathers out of the way to make sure they stay clean, I don't know, I leave that to the scientists to work out. I just consider my self to be incredibly privileged to get the chance to photograph them up close.

    Catchyou soon.

    Peter
