    Icy Dog House?

I took this one this morning. The dog house (or whatever it is really..) was built by a 23-year-old Fireman/EMT from Springfield and a 24-year-old helicopter instructor (my stepson) who had hosted a party for a friend of theirs who graduated from college last night. They had an Ugly Sweater Party at our basement.

The image is not showing...I do know what I am doing wrong? Maybe I am not allowed to upload a photo? Please advice...

I do not know why that is so I am asking...this is my first time to submit a photo and it is located in my miscellaneous album in CiC. Someone will pitch in and tell, I hope so I can fully participate instead of just doing a C&C of someone elses'. Thanks for trying.

Isabel: I could try to explain but would screw it up. Go to FAQ above and the first question you will see is "how do I post images here".
Let us know if you still can't get something up.

    Re: Icy Dog House?

I spent almost half an hour to an hour trying to upload my image. First read through all the instructions on the FAQ about the subject you just mentionei. Then I decided to create an album in CiC after trying tinypic which did not load the photo first time and second time. Then I found out I did not save my photo in CIC so I went back and upload it again and saved it. Tried to follow the copy and paste instruction and it did not paste in my message of the BB code. So I tested the copy on my word processor and it pasted there so I copied it from there and pasted it in message. It did not paste so I copied the whole thing letter by letter in my image.

Is there something else I may have forgotten to do?

    Isabel,
For whatever reason, when you go to upload a pic the first option seems not to work. If that happens choose 'Go Advanced' on the right. Only thing I'm not sure about is if, when you click browse a CiC album is available. But if you have it in a folder in your comp you should be fine. Also you may have to down size your image, if so either do it yourself or click on the Tinypic dialogue box for Resize and set to default. Hope this helps.

    Re: Icy Dog House?

Many of us initially had problems with uploads, Isabel, so don't worry about it.

Tinypics won't work for me when I'm replying with the Post Quick Reply option; but it is fine if I switch to Go Advanced.

Creating an Album in CinC can also be a little complicated at first. I don't use that method very often now that Tinypics uploads are available.

When first using albums, I often found that I was failing to correctly save my image in the album. I could see the thumbnail but it then vanished when I attempted to move on to the next stage.

One potential problem with albums is that there is a size restriction on images.

Failure to correctly copy the image address 'tags' is something else which originally caused me problems. With both albums and direct linking from other sites.

ps. I have found your photo but I'm not sure if I can directly link from it.

That goes to the photo but it won't show as an actual image on the page unless I copy it to my computer then upload again.

    Re: Icy Dog House?

I also had done what you suggested earlier. Somehow like in this instance that I clicked on to reply to your message, I do not have that option. Maybe I am already on the advanced option. Also I had reduced my image to 1600 on the longest side in Photoshop as Colin suggested in one of my other topic so that image was already downsized. Something is also going wrong when I start replying to most posts in this site -- if I do not look closely and re-edit, I am not able to notice that some words or addendum to my words. I do not know if I can blame my computer but when I am not here in this site, my typing works very well otherwise. Whew!

    Re: Icy Dog House?

Thanks Geoff....that was helpful...I will keep trying. I must be forgetting something to do or my image was faulty. Maybe I should reduce it more to less than 1600 ... maybe 1200.

(And for some reason, now this advanced option seems to improve my typing the text here in my response to your message unlike when I reply to the previous post...hmm...) Thanks again..

    Re: Icy Dog House?

There is a max size for Tinypics uploads, but I can't remember what it is, so an image at 1600 pixels and full quality Jpeg could be over the limit.

I find that 1000 or sometimes 1200 pixels on the long side and at 80% or 90% compression quality works fine.

And with regard to the actual photo. I think I would try slightly increasing the contrast to give it a tiny bit more 'pop'. Probably concentrating on fractionally darker shadows.

    Re: Icy Dog House?

Yes Geoff...it needs contrast. It was a test run on submitting a photo. I know I will get the flak for this for I have been critical of other photos but I really didn't think of editing the photo. It was the point and shoot Nikon's fault, so I will just blame the camera.

I do my editing (PP) in Photoshop CS6 so I really have no excuse...when I save I do a Save As and not Save For Web and Devices. This is already a JPEG so I just did the Image Size Dimension to 1600 at the longest side seeing that I intended to put it in the CiC album. Next time I will use the Tiny Pic stuff.

Doing Christmas cards today so I don't have much time...my job each year + cooking...
