    Rainbow

    Not what the title suggests.

First or 2nd time out with that new combo and I was finding some difficulty focusing without shaking.

I do not have the measured Matt approach preferring to leave that for a day when it is just common stuff that I would keep or not keep. This guy, I wanted keepers so no testing

He may look big here but he is only about the size of a sparrow.

    Common Kingfisher.

As you probably know I am not a birder but the is a beautiful little bird! Well taken Bobo

The second seems a tad sharper to me and is my preference but they are both very nice. Did you lose a little bit of the detail in the red on his feet in the 2nd or was the color that intense?

I really love these; did you have any specific reason for changing settings?

    Re: Rainbow

Thanks Shane - yes the 2nd is a bit sharper and the colour was really intense. Had to pull back some in post. I made a print of the 2nd which came out fine.

Thanks Nandakumar - 2 reasons actually, I wanted him all sharp hence f8. Light was fading and forced to trip the shutter down and iso up. Could have gone much higher on the ISO but was not willing to risk it not knowing exactly what the camera would do.

On the 5D3 I would go to 10000 in a blink but though the 1DX is supposedly better at noise wanted to play it safe that day and not experiment too much.

Gorgeous images Bobo, a beautiful bird nicely shown. Now a question... was this captured in Ontario?

    Close enough that you're excused.

This really is a colorful bird. For what it's worth, I assumed that it is about the size of a sparrow; the rock provides a nice sense of scale. Well done and congratulations on using your new camera with such great success!

Wow Bobo! You've REALLY outdone yourself this time! Don't let anyone blame it on the carpenter's hammer, er... camera. This kind of result takes real skill. I love the Kingfisher's color and detail, particularly in the second one.
