Ramachandran : Thanks for taking the time to comment! And you are correct, the original looks almost b+w anyway, but is mostly washed out. So I thought the conversion, with some sharpening would help it to pop. The focus is pretty sharp, and so I was sure if I had enough dynamic range, it would make a very cool b+w photo.

John : Thanks very much for the compliment! I run long distance, but there's nothing similar between running, and hiking through deep snow with gear! It was definitely a little tiring!

But I've come to terms (after 30 some years), that I live in Canada, and what you say is absolutely true. I've equipped myself with some decent cold weather gear, even for camping (), and it's really not that bad. Enjoyable, even!
