    Waterfall - kind of...

A friend of mine, and myself hiked backed into a protected conservation area where these falls are located. I have only been in the summer, and must say - it's a much nicer sight in the winter. Although considerably easier to get to in the summer.

It is a haven for winter birds, all of you bird togs would love it, although I can't see hiking in here with a big-ass lens, but nothing's impossible, I suppose.

Where my friend is standing, is about 1.5 meters higher than it normally would be without snow, and the water would be about 2 meters deep below that. As you can see, there's still water flow, and I'm standing in a bit of it to capture this shot. Albeit only about 10 centimeters, or so deep. It was a little unnerving to walk across here, knowing what lies beneath, and as you can tell by my friend's position, it wasn't totally solid. But it was a great day, and I think we got some great shots too.

Any C+C is always greatly appreciated!

Amazing picture... Including your friend really made this image great for me. It provides scale and the dark point that any high key image needs. Outstanding job...

Looks like a great pic to me. I feel the cold looking at it. If it is this nice in the winter it must be awesome in the summer when the falls are flowing.

Rita: Thank-you! It is a beautiful place in the summer too, and much easier - I'm waiting for the day when my kids are old enough to handle a longer hike so I can get them back in here to see this!

James: Thanks for the very nice comments! Yes, I forgot to mention that you should 'click to enlarge' it - it really does pop when it's full size. Yes, the effort on the hike is kind of meaningless when you get to see nature, like this...

Bruce: Thanks very much for taking the time to view, and comment!

Bobo: Thank you for the critique! I know what you mean! Snow shoes will be in order if we decide to go back. When we got there, we were the first ones through, all of the trails were covered in fresh snow, and the only tracks you could see were from the local wildlife. It was kind of inspiring, since it's been dull and grey for the last little while. I needed that!

This is a very beautiful image Andrew and I agree with Richard that the addition on your friend into the scene is what really makes it.

Send this off to a photography or adventure magazine as it really needs to be published

A classic image; here viewers don't see the face of the person in the image; but his direction of view acts as the leading line to the viewers where their eyes should reach; this is one of the classic black and white images i have seen recently

    Andrew,

Great shot. Sitting here in the sweltering heat I'm feeling cooler just looking at it.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback everyone!

Travis : That's very kind of you!

Shane : That is MORE than kind of you, thanks for your critique, and ego booster!

Nandakumar : Thank you very much for taking the time to look, assess, and comment; I truly appreciate your feedback, and I'm glad you like it!

David : Thanks very much for viewing! I have been called a lot worse than mad! I've been feeling claustrophobic with this nasty weather we've been having, and I needed to get out. It was quite liberating!

Grahame : Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you stopped, and took the time to comment! I cannot say that I wouldn't rather be where you are! I've gotten used to the Canadian winters.... But used to doesn't necessarily mean fond of!!

Isabel : That is a huge compliment - thank you so much! And, I may just do that! Thanks for viewing!

Fantastic picture Andrew, pictures like that at this time of year look really great in black and white. I hope we get some hard frosts and some snow this year in England as I love taking winter pictures. Just being out in it is breathtaking and all seems silent around you.
    Brilliant!!

Thanks Clive! Glad you like it. It should be a good winter for that around here, it just doesn't want to stop snowing now that it's started!

    A beautiful image indeed!
Your choice of b&w has made the image excellent.
I doubt if the colour version would be so much impressive.

Very nice, well worth the trip. The hike alone can be very exhausting.

I really like this shot Andrew. Because most people won’t get out in this kind of weather it becomes a scene that is largely missed. And that’s a shame really.

But nice for those of us who do get out there!

At least there are photographers like you who get out there and bring these shots out of the wilderness.

There is no such thing as bad weather. There is only bad gear. (Well, unless you are in a tornado!)
