Faulty White Balance Target
I have often mentioned that I will use the white coats of my Maltese as a white balance target. NOT IN THIS CASE! Monique has just arrived from the shelter with her five puppies and this is her entry image. I take an entry shot to have a baseline to judge the improvement.
We don't know where this little mom and her puppies were living but, as I write this, she is getting her second bath and it looks like a few more baths will be in order before Monique can be my white balance target. The puppies will be bathed next!

Very nice, Richard.
You did something I do not think I would have thought of. The bedding is clean, solid colored and of a non-competing color. Thank you for this. I still have my shelter shots to do. I will remember this.
PS She seems to be an attentive mom. The puppies look fat and healthy.

Re: Faulty White Balance Target
I just received additional information on this little family unit. The puppies are 4-weeks old and the 5-dogs were confiscated from an owner who could/would not take proper care of them. The owner was 85-years old and animal control turned Monique (we gave her that name) over to our rescue organization.
The family stank to high heaven and were flea ridden. Monique and her pups are cleaner after several baths. We learned, after cutting through many layers of grime that while Monique is basically white (we believe she is a Maltese-Poodle mix) the puppies are an off white color (no telling what breed daddy is). They are clean now and are well taken care of...
Pups seem well fed but, they are quite hungry and the mom is not a big dog. However, we are helping Monique by feeding her a high calorie, high protein, high calcium diet, supplemented with vitamins, and by grinding up puppy kibble in a food processor and adding warm water making the food into a soft gruel which her pups are lapping up...
Our vet has treated the mom for worms and other internal parasites and we will treat the puppies when they are a bit older.

Richard, you do great work with your rescue of dogs.
btw: on an earlier post you mentioned that you were a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
I made my life's work as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the states of Kentucky, and Georgia.
Now retired, I am still currently a CRC.

Re: Faulty White Balance Target
I opted not to work for the State of California when I graduated from my Master's Program at San Diego State University. Instead I worked for various nonprofit and educational organizations. I also did a stint in a for-profit private rehabilitation company.
