    I have no idea what that is, but it does make for a nice contrast in colours

    either do I, though it appears to have been connected to the leaf before it pulled away from the little piece just above it.

    Probably it is some kind of resins some trees secrete; when it fell on the leaf it started solidifying along with falling down slowly under gravity....than it solidified, leaving behind a thin film that remained stuck on the leaf. Later the thin film cracked leaving some residue there (above) and the remaining part of the thin film remains as a collar...this is what i feel
