    Seal B&W

    Taken yesterday morning along the coast near my home in Gordons Bay,South Africa.Took a bit of sneaking up along the rocks to get this close and sitting patiently for him to calm down.Nikon D3s,Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8.Neil

    Is this what you would call a young cape fur seal? The reason I ask is that I read that they are actually classified scientifically as a sea lion, as indicated by the ear flap. Apparently sea lions have them and seals don't.

    Hello Mike, yes you are correct its a young Cape fur seal,I think being a youngster helped me get nearer than you would usually as he hadn't developed his fear of humans yet.

    Nice sharp shot Neil. I wonder whether it would be worth reducing the brightness of the background a bit to give more prominence to the seal. Also there appears to be a halo on the top of it's head and back but it may just be the way it's fur is lying.
