I'm really not sure how to put this - and perhaps it's just because it's different to my style of portraiture - but to be brutally honest, I really can't see many "points to signal" in the photo that I would encourage someone to try and emulate. I'm sure that the focus, colour, and exposure of the original are just fine, but to my eye, quite a few things bother me about the overall shot;
- The colour of your jacket draws the eye away from your faces - and then your son's arm draws my eye away even more.
- The overall composition has the eyes too high in the frame, and
- The angle that your eyes meet also seems awkward.
My apologies - I hope none of this offends; if you like the shot (and obviously you like it a lot) then that's all that matters -- it's just not one I'd choose to emulate personally.
