    Great Blue Heron grooming for her close up Mr. DeMille

    Aahhhh, I posted photos 1ce before and now I can,t get it.

    I posted without rezing, and they were way to big on screen : then I resized to "medium" and I just get text of my ?link?, no photo
    I tried this 3rd one without resizing and it seems ok as far as fitting.

    Any help, I thought I was following the directions....:{

    Ok, the library I was at may have something to do with it. Others were saying it was toooo slow and cutting them off.
    I will try again in a few days.
    Any comment on the 1 photo appreciated.

    Nancy,

    This is a really great image, the bird is sharp, is adequately separated from the background but it is 'flat'. I had a quick look at it and the white point is way off so in my opinion it needs a bit of PP work still.

    Thank you Grahame. By 'white point' is that my white balance? How do I get it to be less 'flat'? I liked the DoF, but is the f11 or such the way to be less flat?
    This was out of the camera unless I cropped alittle ( I think?)

    Aah...why are you shooting them at f/11? Opening that lens to a maximum of f/5.6 would allow a higher SS in case they start to fly.

    As David writes, 'white point' and 'white balance' are two different things.

    To learn about white and black points, have a read of this CiC tutorial.

    As an FYI thingy...with my own GBH's, I put my color picker on the dark tuft atop their head to set my color balance.

    It's normal grooming behaviour. They use their beak for almost all of their grooming but, it can't reach the top half of their neck or head.

    Thank you all. Yes! The white point adjustment David made is way better!
    Donald, of all the great tutorials I have read here, I hadn't gotten to that one yet. Thanks for the link.

    Does the white point adjustment help with the 'flat' comment someone made?

    The more I learn, The longer my "to learn" list gets ;}

    Beautiful image and gorgeous detail. I think David's adjustment brings out the beauty perfectly.

    Lots of < 40s seem to sport that this year.

    The shot looks good now with the adjustment.
