    Baby Great Blue Herons

The nest in my local park now has a pair of baby great blue herons in it. They hatched a week or more ago but were not visible in the nest. The actions of the parent showed that there was something there and for the last couple of days I had seen parts of a chick. Today I found that there were two chicks.

One was stretching out and I got a decent shot of the beginnings of the primary and secondary flight feathers.

What a sight it must be to see them growing up. Keep within their sight and maybe just maybe they will not be so skittish when they come down when bigger.

Florida has a plethora of sceneries and birds and creepy-crawlies. Your shots are nice ... and you know you can do better each time considering your location. Lucky you! We only go there once a year...usually at Cedar Key ...

Wow, what a find!! I have never found a heron nest! I am in Ft Myers, where are you?
We have alot of Osprey nests here, but too early for their babies I believe.

That's a pretty cool thing to witness. I'd love a chance to watch them go through their stages of development.

I am up the road in Punta Gorda. That nest is in Ponce De Leon Park at the end of Marion Ave. It is on an Osprey pole that the Wildlife Refuge set up to attract nesting ospreys. Unfortunately, a nearby oak grew up a bit taller and the Ospreys only want the highest point for 30 yards or so for nesting.

There are plenty of GBH nests at Venice Rookery and I know of a couple of others but they are on private land and I don't want to publicize the location to avoid crowds and avoid situations like this.
