Pelicans Reflected in a Pelican's Eye

Not far from where I live there is our local beachside fish market which regularly feeds the local pelicans. They are wild birds and the owner of the market is very careful how much and what he feeds them so as not to upset their normal diet. He also takes the chance to check out their health and remove any fishing line etc that thoughtless people have left for them to become entangled in, but fortunately that doest happen very often. As a result they have become quite used to having people around, in fact this one virtually barged past me to get to an expected morsel. If you look at his eye in download size you can make out the reflections of several of his friends who also turned up for a meal. Hope you like it.

Just great, with or without the reflections and I like your composition very much. You made the very most of this nice opportunity with a very special image.

Gorgeous image... I'm fascinated by how the composition works so beautifully! And yes, I can see the reflections.

Superb image. Particularly like the closeup details which we do not usually see.

Awesome detail, Peter. We noticed early on during out trip there that the pellies had a fondness for hanging around the fish cleaning tables at the local boat ramps.

Yeah and if you happen to be on the beach fishing and lucky enough to catch a few you can't leave them in a bucket or the pellies will come along and steal them. Where I photograph these pelicans there is a bird who is even smarter than them. He is a brahmani kite and when the pelicans have a mouthful of fish guts he will swoop down and grab it out of their mouths as they try to swallow it. Thats the photograph I haven't got yet but I will.
