I assume you received a copy of Canon DPP with your camera. This will allow you to do some limited editing on RAW files (and Jpeg) or convert your RAW images to Tiff or Jpeg for editing with other software. Many editing programmes will also work directly on your RAW files once you have downloaded them onto your hard drive.

If you need more advice about DPP, just ask. Some members find that software is all they require for editing.

I think Adobe has already updated Ps and Lr to work with the Canon 7D, so if you have Ps/Lr; make sure it's updated. Aperture has already updated their software to work with the 7D.

    Thanks guys for your help.
Sorry Amberglass, I don't know the meaning of Ps/Lr.
    Can you enlighten me.
    Thanks again,

It means Ps = Photoshop (Adobe Photoshop Suite or Elements) and Lr = Adobe Lightroom editor and workflow, Calvin.

Just guessing but I suspect the initials refer to Photoshop & Lightroom, although I use different, and cheaper, software.

OK, so we were both typing at the same time.

If you own or are considering buying Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Lightroom, you will probably need to download Adobe's recent update, Adobe Camera RAW 5.6, which included support for the 7d's RAW files.

Neither ACR nor Lr do 7D files any favours at all - IQ is really not great from either converter where the 7D is concerned (Lr 3 beta is promising, but is still beta).

Capture One 5 seems to be as good as it gets for the 7D right now, and is my choice. DxO Optics is pretty good, but very slow on my machine; Bibble 5 produces disappointingly noisy images from 7D CR2s, although it's excellent for (say) the 40D.

Raw Therapee would be highly recommended, except that the last stable release (2.4.1) doesn't natively support the 7D. Release 3.0 is very alpha and horrendously unstable. One to keep an eye on though, and in the mean time 2.4.1 will convert 7D files that have been converted to DNG using the free Adobe converter, very well.

Bear in mind that Raw Therapee is free, too.

I've heard some positive opinions about Silkypix, but I haven't tried it since I got my 7D, as I'm not struck on the interface and - to be honest - Capture One 5 is excellent.
