Another aspect of warm lighting you may want to keep in the back of your mind as you shoot is that warm colors appear to come out of the frame towards you. Cool colors recede. If you want the subject to stand out a bit from the background, a hint of warm color can help.

Excellent work Christina. Mexico has been quite a good place for you.
Herons in flight are an excellent subject to train for BIF, they are not too fast and are big enough to get focus where you want. Personally, I like the wings down position as that tends to show all the feathers and textures, subject to distance/lighting of course. Wings up is also nice as one can then see the underside.
