More RAM makes a bigger difference than the processor in imaging applications. Although, faster processors always help the ability to hold as much as possible in memory is usually the limiting factor. At least as long as the motherboard can load and unload quickly and that is a function of bus speeds.

Traditionally, yes -- but these days it's not as cut and dry as it used to be now that machines with 4GB and above are becoming more common place (in 64 bit environments). In systems with solid state drives and lots of RAM we're actually starting to (finally!) see the CPU become the Achilles heel.

    I've been away few days.

I would say yes to your question - exporting as a TIFF seems to lock in the previous edits, making subsequent edits much faster (DNG doesn't). Of course with enough edits on a TIFF, it could also slow down.
