How can a polarising filter increase reflection?

It is known that polarising filters decrease reflection but I have read that they are also good for taking reflection pictures, for instance taking the picture of reflection of a tree on the water...How can this happen?I have started taking pictures very recently and I don't know very much about filters...

The polarizer will reduce the glare off the water (specular highlights), allowing the tree reflection to be seen more clearly.

I might add that if you're taking the photo at the back time of day ("Golden Hour") when the light is soft, there won't normally be any glare anyway. Personally, I never use CPL filters.

And in the one memorable example that Colin showed us recently a skilled positioning of camera to make best use of reflection angles so he had a dark cloud reflected by the pool rather than bright sky ... it was very well done and demonstration of what one should look for when in the field.

Hmm, if it was me, I can't remember it!
