A phone camera opinion.
We've hashed this out a couple of times here. An on-line technology magazine seems to be just catching up.

Re: A phone camera opinion.
I'm waiting for a smartphone that will capture images and print out all in one, ala the Polaroid SX70. Saw one on Amazon, they are selling for $169.00. Wow, and there is a market for it. I still have my Polaroid One Step, don't know if it works though.

Re: A phone camera opinion.
Camera phones, phablets and tablets are quite adequate in meeting the needs of the snapshooters out there, just as all those plastic cameras that Kodak and others cranked out in the pre-digital days. I think we are getting "back to the future", where cameras are indeed a mature product aimed at a more sophisticated user.
This means that the industry will continue to have a shakeout; names like Konica-Minolta, Yashica, Topcon, etc. will be joined by some of the current players. I feel fairly confident that Canon, Nikon and Sony (albeit downsized versions of these companies that will be concentrating on higher end (and higher margin products)) will be around for some time to come; I'm not as sure about some of the other current players surviving in the consumer marketplace.
