    Light Painting

I've seen several threads on RC helicopters and noticed that photography and tech is kind of a niche. During my holiday break I got a little distracted by some tech blogs/videos. One in particular seemed to have great potential for photography, especially light painting.

The overview/tutorial is by Adafruit. You can also buy most of the parts from her. This is a moderate level project and is best attempted if you have some experience with Arduino, although there are also variants with Raspberry PI and/or other open source controllers.

    From the Adafruit website ...

What projects do you have planed or are considering for the new year?

Light painting is one. I'd like to do the RC photography but really just to fly the aircraft.

I'm with you John, flying is fun and usually comical. I'm definitely not skilled enough to get reasonable shots -- although many of the new models (DJI Phantom) have GPS/accelerometer aiding. That DSLR gimbals cost more than my camera, I would hate to damage either. Hence the skill and why some are doing well.

When I first studied photography, eons ago "painting with light" involved another technique. It was moving a continuous source light around your subject (often a table top still life) to reduce or eliminate any of the shadows....

Those were the days before umbrellas, softboxes and all the other dandy light modifying tools that photographers have these days...
