    Old Lenses

    Hello everybody ¡
I assisted last month to a portrait workshop, and I was shooting with the new stuff, but also sometimes I like to use the old lenses in the new digital cameras.
In this case, it was a Nikon D 200 with a Nikkor 55 mm f 1,2 AI, from middle of the seventies.
    Comments are wellcome
    Thank you

Lovely shot of a beautiful model Pedro. It has that "classic portrait" look.

Nice portrait. Can you lose that white spot on the right hand top of the frame? It is a little bit distracting to the (my) eyes.

    Hi David deetheturk.
Really these lenses are making a good job. And my idea for this post, was precisely this.
Everybody can find these lenses at a very good price, at the second hand market.
    This other is whith a Nikkor 135 mm f 2,8 on a Nikon D 800 body

Very nice Pedro, I'm a Canon man but there are plenty old Canon lenses out there also,do you have to use an adapter for the modern dslr's?

    Thank you ¡
No, I`dont need adaptors at all; and the cameras recognize de aperture of the lens, so is possible to shoot in the Aperture priority, Speed priority and manual. All of this, after introducing de type of non CPU lens in the menu.
Of course the auto focus does not work, but in the viewfinder you see a couple of arrows,or a dot, when is in correct focus

    Re: Old Lenses

A number of makes of lenses can be mounted on Canon EOS bodies via adapters. There are also adapters about that will persuade the cameras AF confirm to work as well but Canon have changed things so that the original adapters no longer work that way on some bodies - AF confirm adapters have to be bought with some care. One make of lens not to fit to an EOS via an adapter is the earlier Canon FD ones. These and a few other makes need additional optics in the adapter and that is likely to spoil them optically. They are good on m 4/3 though.

Yes, you do need an adapter to mount a manual focus lens on a Canon EOS auto focus body. Unfortunately, unless you get an expensive and optically mediocre adapter with glass, you will not be able to focus your Canon manual focus lens at infinity mounted on a Canon EOS camera.

However, I believe that Nikon and Minolta lenses will work with an adapter. However, you (of course) won't have auto focus capability...
