I haven't seen such a spider before but you sure nail the sharpness of that little fella. Do you some have motion shots of it jumping?

Not a bad shot. I never knew they had eyes on the side of the head, cool! The colors on this photo look slightly off to me, and also IMO it is underexposed slightly. In processing you may want to open the shadows on the front of the face and add a slight vignette around the leaf at the bottom and sides, and personally I would blur the leaf at the bottom left just a tiny bit to return focus to subject. Spidey is too close to the right side for my taste. Finally, black bg doesn't work for me but with handheld flash there isn't much you can do AFAIK. Sorry to be harsh but these are just my opinions, hope some of it helps. Still a good job on a tough subject!

Thanks Matt for commenting, all spiders to my knowledge have eyes on the side of their head! What colours do you think are off?the spider is as shot, the only thing I've done is mute the green on the leaf because it was a tad to bright,as for underexposed my histogram is spot on,again only leaf toned down.Because the shot is side on I did not think opening up the shadows on the front of his face would of added anything! The vignette and/or blur might work though. This was shot at 1-1 Matt, and the only crop I've made is from the top to remove some of the black B/G,which I'm not a big fan of either ,but when you are half in a bush handholding your rig I'm afraid sometimes it's inevitable Don't worry about being harsh, that's how we learn

These are fascinating little spiders and this shot looks perfect to me. Although there may be a tiny spot of slight over brightness on the white stripe behind its eye.

Isabel, these tiny creatures have an amazingly fast leap. I sometimes watch them creeping up on aphids, etc. When about two inches away they just 'vanish' then reappear in a different position carrying their prey.

Probably one of the most interesting and cute of all spiders (Salticidae). Typically 4 eyes in front, two lateral (as shown), very sharp eyesight. They will follow you as you move. Very interesting coloration, almost a calico look. Spiders are really the only 'animal' that I would have any interest in shooting.
