The object of his affection: Silvergirl

My husband's love affair with airplanes started when he was 6 years of age. It was during the first time a corner store owner bought a plane similar to this one. He saw pride in his neighbour's eyes as he described the airplane and vowed one day that he too, will one day own one exactly like it. It was also then that he decided he wanted to be a pilot, a damn good one! His determination led him to achieved his dreams plogging through school and college with one eye opened to opportunities that might open up for him, working days, going to school at night to finish his education. He acquired this airplane, a 1946 Swift bird in the late 70's while working at the time as a first officer for TWA...Please feel free to criticize and/or comment...

Retired as a captain, this is now one of his pride and joy...

A beautiful example of what tender loving care can do for a vintage aircraft. About the only thing to add Isabel, would be formation flying close-up shots. By close-up, I'm referring to full frame captures like this one, but airborne. Perhaps you have some of those you could post?

Sure do...They are conveniently scattered somewhere amongst my 5 harddrives. I will try to dig some up...I am just wondering about how to properly shoot aluminum stuff like this...that is why I uploaded it...the concrete pathway in front of our hangar can be seen at the bottom part of the airplane and the sky at the top of it...my shot in the fields wasn't that good.

I have taken a lot of airborne shots many times...some flying formations...My problem with one against the sky is ghosting around the image.

Here is a different one, same Swift but of different owner (Jim Roberts)...taken during a formation fly-over at the Gateway Arch during our national event in June of 2012...I have not straighten this one yet...I have a lot of editing to do from the 2012 shots. I used 3 cameras at the time...got burned out from that event so packed up my gears.

Hmmmm... Not sure why there would be ghosting on the airborne shots. Colin Southern is also a pilot. Perhaps he has an idea of the cause and how to avoid it? It wouldn't take much cloning to correct it though.

Actually, I was thinking about seeing the Swift airborne but these are great images as well. On a polished aircraft like this, the reflections provide an outstanding opportunity to savor the Silvergirl's curves. I have taken some close-up aircraft images just to get reflections like this. I think I might drop the sharpness and contrast of the hangers a little which would make the Swift stand out a bit more.
