I seen a post earlier tonight which mentioned some photo editing software for B&W photos and decided to download Perfect Photo Suite 8. I was looking for something that was quite easy to use but still gave impressive results and this might just fit the bill. I've got it on their 30 day free trial, so plenty of time to play about. This is my first 'playabout', done in about 10mins.

I like the original but wanted a softer, slightly hazy image in a soft sepia style. I'm sure I could have made it better if I'd spent a little longer on it!

You can also easily do B&W images in post, and I tend to do some just in Photoshop and sometimes will use Nik SilverEfex Pro 2.

0.4 sec exposure at for shooting at 135mm is a very low shutter speed, even more so on a crop frame camera.

The images look flat and underexposed to me. Is this the effect you were after?

To be honest it was taken on the fly - without tripod! - so there is a very slight blur from a bit of camera shake that has softened everything. I was after that slight under exposed effect.

Looking at both images again tonight, I now prefer the original. Am I allowed to do that?

Why not; I sometimes change my mind too. I find that I will go back and rework an image the next day (or even later) because I have had a chance to think about it and either don't like my original edit or want to try something else.

From an exposure standpoint; I always strive for a good exposure in-camera and make changes during post.
