Fascinating, Andrew! Your post motivated me to look up the definition of a neutrino. I hope Light: Science and Magic is both enjoyable and helpful.

These guys wanted to raise $20,000 at KickStarter to take products to market that make and store clear ice balls. They raised nearly $175,000. They are now selling their product that costs $85 and makes one ice ball at a time and a holder that costs $20 that stores 4 ice balls. Business must be good because their holders are out of stock.

    Hi Mike,
Nice pictures I very much like what your doing.
I believe that if you boil the water before freezing the ice will be clear; might be of help. (I haven't tried it but believe it to be true).
    Have fun.
    Regards
    John

Thank you to Nadakumar and John!

I just now walked into my kitchen to begin preparing dinner and realized that my earlier comment that Christina's seal is a white potato is very wrong. L. Paul said that it is a kumara (called a sweet potato in my part of the world). He is correct and I have edited my earlier post accordingly. That also explains at least partly why there are no spuds.

Hi Mike. I looked at your images before reading your message. I thought they looked like museum pictures of rock crystal. I have to say that the last image put a smile on my face -- I do like it. Very nice.

Yes, thank you Karm! I adore my seal, too. It looks like she is lounging on an iceberg

Mike these images are truly amazing (creative, unique and photographed so beautifully) and I hope you know that.

Christina was very understanding when we exchanged private messages about the demise of her seal. It was an excellent side dish to the entrée of grilled lamb, paired of course with an ideal wine from Rioja.

Thank you to Marie about the opportunities to purchase clear ice in my area.

Yes, indeed especially considering that my Seal had dreams and aspirations of being a super model. My sole consolation is that she passed from this world with style.

Mike, I hope Bubba, left some offspring in your care and that they will be given the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and aspirations, and that you put that clear ice to good use. Otherwise I might just send you a piece of my ear. (a wee piece )

    Mike,
You do bottles, glasses, broken glass and now ice. How about a glass or bottle made of ice (if you subsequently break it you hit the trifecta)?
At the least how about some images of glasses (goblets, red/white wine) WITH ice? Hmmm....artistic juices flowing?

Jack: Stop coming up with ideas that are so difficult to implement. I still need to photograph wine bottles and wine glasses with wine in them and with wine being poured into them before I get to your really tough stuff.

Kris: Sorry, but your link led to a video that the web site said could not be found.

Christina: The ice was put to excellent use. I threw it on the lawn. It subsequently melted and "watered" the lawn. As for the seal, its name was Sally, not Bubba. Sally Seal. Get it? Whales can be named Bubba, as in Bubba Blubber.

Mike, if you want to shoot the easy stuff, I understand completely.

And may I ask where Bubba (the father, now a widower) and single parent of three homeless baby seals named named Baloo, Bobo, and Bam Bam (2 boys and 1 girl, respectively) are living now that you threw their home onto the lawn and let it melt?

I've never met a whale named Bubba! Her name was Sheba... (:

PS I adore Jack's idea! Consider layering wines of different densities on top of a base layer of ice.

Well, I did! And now you know, all of their names...

Bonus of asking... New ideas stirring around in your head.
