And they've finally given us EC in manual mode with Auto-ISO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK - 10 brownie points to any 1D X users on 2.0.3 who can actually figure out HOW TO CHANGE THE EC when in manual mode with Auto-ISO enabled!
(it's got me stumped!)
Cheers, I havent flashed it yet but will tomorrow.
Yes, EC just like the Nikons. Should be handy especially for the dark in sky, light in sky type shots. No more rolling the shutter speed.
How do you find Auto ISO?
Have not tried it yet but on the 5D3 it always over-exposed so stopped using it.
I just push the ISO button - roll the wheel to the left - and there it is
In all seriousness, up until now, I haven't used it because (a) there was no EC, (b) shutterspeed control was a lottery, and (c) for the most part, I didn't need it anyway (certainly not for studio, landscape, or commercial work) (which covers 98% of what I shoot), but for things like BIF I think it'll be heaven sent (with the 2.0.x upgrade); now ...
- You can specify something like F2.8 - Min of 1/2000th - EC - Auto-ISO (up to a desired point), and then kick in safety shift to watch your back even further if you wish, plus ...
- With the new AF options you can give higher priority to first and subsequent frames (at the expense of release speed); as I see it, with BIF, if it's not in focus then it doesn't matter how many frames per second you can shoot.
So all in all, for those who shoot action / sports (inc BIF) I think the keeper rate will go up a bit.
PS: If you like to use the set button for something more deep and meaningful, you can also adjust EC by hitting the quick select button - using the joystick - and adjusting it onscreen.
Thanks Colin for your insights. Still learning this beast and will take a while getting used to the controls.
