    Loggerhead Shrike with Prey

These little guys are called butcher birds because they capture large prey and butcher it to eat. I've seen them with small snakes.

My first thought was "cute little bird", then I scaled it to the barbed wire and decided it wasn't as little (nor cute) as I had initially imagined

    Great captrue,

Nice capture Saorsa! I'm surprised that the bug doesn't just fall off the wire, or had the bird impaled it on the of the sharp wire points?

Yep, it uses the barbs as man made thorns. They are a small bird, the head is proportionally large and they are quick and agressive.

Nice...the bird and the story are both very interesting. Can't pick a nit on the original shot. Sorry.
