A courageous bird: the great kiskadee

The great kiskadee is one of my favorite birds. The reasons are its beauty, its characteristic trill and its courage. Today I saw two great kiskadees chasing a small hawk (unfortunately they were too far to take a decent picture, but, in the future, I hope to take a photo of this kind of scene). Important observation: the small hawk is 3 to 4 times bigger than the great kiskadee.
These two little guys were on a tree near my house and I used my camera to take some photos.
I would like to have your comments.
    Cheers,
    Antonio.

I think that Panama Hat is a Bird-maniac! I really like your birds.

    Veronica,
    Bird-maniac! (LOL!!).
Really I like very much to take photos of birds. Most of them are beautiful and have a nice trill
I'm trying to learn with the masters of bird photos (Joe, Bobo, Otavio and many others on the CiC).

The first and last shots are nice. They all seem to be a bit over exposed blowing the highlights. Likely the dark BG fooled the meter.

    Dan,
I think you are right. The dark BG fooled the meter and the pictures are a bit over exposed. The small sensor of SX50 has less dynamic range than the DSLR APC-S sensors and it is more likely to blow the highlights in the case of over exposition.

Great to have the story with these and they are handsome shots. I'm impressed with the reach of the SX50 notwithstanding its less capable sensor. Definitely easier to haul about than the big glass I'm dreaming of for my DSLR.
The second shot is the nicest in content in composition for me -- the pair looks so nice together, but I think the focus missed by just a hair.

I most like the first one, because the bird really stands out.I'm not very experienced but PROs might say something about sharpness.None of them seem sharp to me.Even so they are all nice..I like shooting birds too but it seems very difficult to me because they move very quickly and there is usually a focusing problem.

    Mark,
Really the reach of the SX50 is outstanding, but the lens is a little slow. The zoom range is from 24 mm (f/3.4) to 1200 mm FFE (f/6.3). Considering its small size, the sensor performance is very good, but it can't be compared to APC-S sensors of DSLR cameras, that are much better.
Because the advantages of faster autofocus, better colour depth, more dynamic range, lower noise at high ISO and optical viewfinder, I'm thinking to buy a DSLR for me. But when I think that I will have to buy (and to carry) two or more lenses with the DSLR, I almost give up (but I'm still studying this subject).
