I think this would have been an ideal opportunity to do an elementary stack with two shots one focused on the near side of the flower and the other as you did. superimpose theem as layers and erase the soft bits. There is no need to worry about the flower at the back becuase we normally accept that. With a bridge camera, as when I played with mine of a rose lying on the kitchen table and sliding the camera closer and closer five times .. pointless really as I found the first and last frames were all I needed and really the back of the flower was not that soft .... but it was an experiment

Taken at 70mm of the 432 zoom range with a two dioptre CU lens
    100 ISO f/8 1/2 second.
The rose was cut by mistake when pruning back the bush to promote growth, culprit in b/g.
I did have slight problem due to working in A mode ... manual would have hopefully got the same tones in each frame and I note seeing the EXIF that the camera is not set to minus one stop which would have helped with the light coming in from the left side

    Hi Brian,

I like this image a lot for the composition, beautiful colours and simple background. If this flower is still around, try for a greater depth of field for more sharp focus and detail on the flower in the foreground like Photo Nuts image. Larger aperture or just a change of position? (I don't know about photo stacking)

Capturing images of raindrops is always a good mental stimulus.
