The American Heart Association (AHA) has created a save-the-date card for use by its offices throughout the U.S. to announce their local Heart Walk fundraising and awareness events held in fall 2014 and spring 2015. The national headquarters asked AHA employees to submit photos to be considered for use on the card. They selected my photo submitted by my wife.
I made the photo at the local 2012 Heart Walk event conducted in the Washington, D.C. area where I was an official volunteer photographer.
An image of the card is shown below. My photo is the one of the little girl with a red heart being painted on her cheek. Sorry that the image is so small but I had access only to a small insert in an email.
AHA selectively converted the image to black-and-white without explaining in advance or asking for permission. They also incorrectly attributed the photo to my wife rather than me. Such is often the way of the nonprofit organizations that don't "get it," despite that their marketing department professionals should certainly know better. These details aren't important to me but they are important to many photographers, so I'm working on educating the folks at AHA through my wife.
EDIT: My original photo is also shown below.
