    Re: Week 11 - Something I dislike

For me, Jon, the lines seem to 'flow' better with the last image. Although possible a narrower aperture or a merge of focus points might give fractionally more focus depth. But it still needs to fade into the distance as you have done with that image.

Thanks for your thoughts Geoff, they are much appreciated. I will keep playing with this idea off and on

    Week 12 - Moon

I had thoughts of a different type of moon but better thoughts prevailed

I wonder if you could merge a couple of those moon images to create an impression of a different 'moon' Jon? No, I shouldn't put such ideas into your head.

    These are working well.

A bit of a pity about the colour looking slightly 'blocky' with #3. It is such a good idea. Still acceptable though. I don't suppose it would convert to monochrome.

Geoff, #3 was taken some time ago and I think the "blocky" color was something I did wrong in post. This location is the top of the courthouse in the town I live in so I will revisit again.
Thanks for the comments...and the idea on merging moons.

    Much better, Jon.

Not sure which I prefer but I suppose the monochrome seems to be more of a night time shot.

Thanks Geoff. I plan on making it downtown one of these nights when there is a full moon and re-shooting this...maybe with some detail in the moon instead of a big white blob

I know, you have already seen this one in another thread but I shot this one with this week in mind.

Good exposure and clarity particularly with the action shots. And you have managed to blur the propeller; too many shots like this have such a fast shutter speed that the prop is frozen and you wonder, how is that plane staying up in the air!

Thanks Geoff. It really helps when the plane is going so slow it looks like it is going to fall out of the sky

Jon - I haven't been coming in to comment as much as I should have. Sorry for that. But I am looking and am loving the journey of exploration and discovery that you're taking in this thread. Good on you.

Thanks for stopping in and for your comments Donald. Life gets busy and we all have to do what we can. I am enjoying this journey very much. I find it kinda challenging to have a specific theme for each week that I have to find an image to fit into but I am still plugging along in my own style (even though I haven't quite figured out what my style is yet)

    Cheers

Week 16 - Photo edit, before & after

Of all my weak points in photography Editing is probably my weakest. I edit with minimal software and the software I do use I only know how to use a small portion of it. I don't know how to clone, burn, dodge and all those other things people do. Don't get me wrong, I am working on it but it is very slow coming.

With that said, here are a couple of before and after shots with my minimalistic approach to processing.

    SOOC

Cropped, re-sized, sharpened, tweaked and converted to B&W

    3.Through a Plumbers eyes (Project 52)

Slight crop, re-sized, saturation adjustment and sharpened
