    Buck Tussle

Came across these two just after a rain. The sun was out but it was cloudy on and off. I put my white balance on auto, then set my aperture to f-14 that allowed a speed of 250th a sec and an iso of 250. I shot in ai servo mode because they were moving. I also used evaluated metering. then I tried to keep a distance that filled my viewfinder with my 200 mm on my 50D. All C&C welcomed.

A great set James. I would think that these guys would be concerned about getting an antler tip poked in their eye but that doesn't seen to slow then down any!

I am curious about your copyright advertisement. I notice in the second shot that the circle is round and that in one and three, it's two different sizes of oval. It makes me wonder if the first and third shots were stretched?

No Frank I just kinda quickly throw that on there I probably stretched the symbol in elements. Notice I take the time to place it where someone could crop it out if they wanted. So it is really kinda useless.

LOL! No need to crop to get it out. I can remove it for you quite easily if you wish!

Excellent and they let you get so close too. Very nice.

Personally I would not have risked spoiling this opportunity at 1/250. With most modern cameras good to at least iso 800 the faster shutter speed would have been a great help.

Thank you Bobo. I try to make up for my lack of pp skills like noise reduction by shooting lower iso whenever I can. My 50d I think it came out in 2007 (with todays tech that classifies it as a dinosaur). I just like that I can get 8 frames per sec with it. I think my T2i which is 3or4 yrs old does better pics just not as fast at 3 frames per sec.
Part of the problem is I usually get out before dawn to shoot so I find myself sitting in the dark with my cameras jacked up to 1200 iso and as it gets light I cant wait to lower that , cause I have forgot to do that and killed a bunch of images with noise.
As far as getting close goes. These were shot with my 200 tele from about 40 or 50 ft. that first picture is probably covering 10 or 12 ft. wide. The deer were more interested in each other also.

Mark -- it is not what you have as a camera that matters. It is you that clicked that button. And you did a good job with these shots. Next time, bring a small flashlight with you so you can see your settings while sitting in the dark, or use your cell phone...when you press one of those buttons, your phone lights up. Just a thought...I used to bring a small flashlight when we have to shoot in the dark for star trails or something...

series. They were really absorbed in what they were doing and paid no attention to the camera. Nice job.

Thank you Christina those 2 bucks have been running together 2 or 3 years now, and that was a tender moment. They spar kind of easier with each other.
