    A Couple of Posers

I don't normally do much with birds but was at the botanical gardens the other day with family and managed a couple of bird shots with my G15 compact. The first shot shows the Australian White Ibis which is a bit of a pest around picnic grounds and outdoor cafes as it is so tame and is continually looking for freebies. But these two were kind enough to pose for me.

And just for fun, a duck and duckling.

    Comments welcome

Dave I have a few shots of those Ibis when my friend and I went to a sanctuary in Melbourne...they were walking about their way but they are everywhere! I never knew they were Ibis. (Now I do...)

Your shots are very good and sharp. 'Love the ducks, too.

Nice shots Dave. What I love about this forum is that one photographer can post images like these White Ibis and describe them as a bit of a pest when others such as me see them as quite exotic.

Interesting observation John. I guess it's just that they are so common here and are birds that are more likely to be found in warmer climates ?

Dave, I read someplace that to have a pretty picture, you want an attractive subject. In that regard, I would submit that your ibis image is great...spot-on focus, exposure, and whatnot...never seen better, unfortunately, it is not a terribly attractive bird.

Yes on the "bird beauty" scale, they are probably towards the bottom end, but as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
