    Rainbow

I did get close, very close. I did go all the way down, in fact lying flat on the snow. I did have him perfectly in focus and level on the focus plane. BUT I did NOT have all his colours. The only way was to undo everything, lift up and turn somewhat to get the back of his head. Got 2 shots. He then moved and point of view was lost.

    1/400, f8, ISO 800, 560mm. About 6 feet away.

    Views/comments always appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would have said "beautiful" but I was told this one is a 'he'...I don't believe I even thanked the one who responded to my sex orientation question, so here's my "Thank you". Anyoldwho...I like the pose of this one...and very sharp too. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent job. I'd have never known there was a color missing if you hadn't said so. Beautiful!

Thanks John, Isabel, Grahame, Nancy, Andre, Terri. Glad you like it.

CiC will not need to endure any more shots of him - he has disappeared.

    Remarkable!

560mm focal length and 6 feet away?! That shows the inadequacy of my 300mm lens, which won't focus unless I'm at least 8 feet away.

Thanks Kyle, David. Glad you like it.

Thanks Mike. It could be 8 feet, not sure since I had to shift position a bit. Funny how even almost 600mm cannot fill the entire frame from just a few feet away.

That's a cracker BoBo. Exposure is on the nail as well with the well controlled whites.

Well Bobo, you've done it now. I've never seen a more colorful image of a Mandarin Drake.

So, here is the problem. How in the world are you going to top this one. Oh wait!! I forgot who I was addressing this to!

You'll find a way and I for one can't wait to see what it is!

Thanks John, Otavio, George. Glad of the approval.

Thanks Frank. A bird at a time Frank.
There is a simple way and a hard way.
Simple way is I do not post any more of him though I have at least another 30.
Hard way is to find him and do a further shoot. Only problem with that is no one knows where he has gone to.

I prefer the simple way otherwise the "too much of a good thing" syndrome will kick in.

Weather has been really freezing cold and that wind is horrendous so shooting out in the open is almost out of the question. Will try to sneak out for some thing or other if the weather breaks.

I didn't mean to imply that it would have to be another Mandarin shot to top this one. You are far to versatile in your shooting skills to be limited to a single species or type of image and for that I am most grateful.
