I quite like the first one...Who is Lottie?
The first one I would classify as a nice "snapshot". The subject is Lottie (I think) but the left 2/3 and the upper half of the image do not add to the overall image.
The second image is much more to my liking; no question whatsoever as to the subject in that image.
I am with Manfred. And the black and white is a nice touch.![]()
I think the black & white needs more space about the subject. She seems cramped by the frame
Nice shot Joanne. Nice to see a photo of a young lady on a warm beach when it's 0 degrees here in New Jersey with 14 inches of snow on the ground.
I simply cannot find any faults with an image of a beautiful young woman on an equally beautiful beach....
Note that the following comments are about the photographic technique, not the subject (no problems there!).
Both seem a little disconnected and snapshotty. In a photo of a person, their expression and body language convey much of the photo's punch. #1 could work very well with more interesting light. Wait until sunset, then stick her in a brightly-lit spot on the shore with a purple sky behind, and you could wind up with a really killer shot. If the background isn't ideal, crank open the aperture and let it turn into bokeh.
I'm not sure about the B&W conversion on #2. Since you can't see her face, I think the B&W is the only thing preventing it from looking like a sneaky snapshot taken by someone walking by. However, the background is very good, along with the angle and framing.
Both shots deserve a second take. Just need to work the scenes and subject a little to get stunners.
I like the shots a lot. The first has nice scenery, but it feels a little dark (maybe over cast or late evening?) or maybe flat (you could boost the colors to create that classic island look). The second has energy, given by the wave and the B&W conversion adds more emotion. What I seem to want to see is the subjects eyes, and especially the catch lights, this brings life.
