PS: How to copy a mask to different image?

I'm almost sure I've done this before but I can't seem to get it to work. I've been trying the different methods outlined in this thread but to no avail. What I want to do is to copy the mask I've created in one version of a photo to another version of the same photo. Seems simple enough but it hasn't worked yet...

Any and all help appreciated, I've given up for the night but I will check tomorrow to see if anyone has the answer, thank you!

Assuming Photoshop, just go to channels - bring up the alpha channel corresponding to the mask - and copy it to the clipboard.

Probably even easier ways list drag the alpha channel across?

Thanks Colin, working with the channels was what I was missing. It wasn't as easy as I would have imagined and I had to play around a bit to finally get it to work but I blame that mostly on my part. The only thing that I'm having trouble with now is that I can't get the selection's 'marching ants' to disappear even when I click on other layers or change tools, any advice? I want to make a couple adjustments to the mask but when I use the brush tool it doesn't seem to do anything... It's probably time that I read a book on layers and masks

    No worries.

Normally just Ctrl+D to kill the ants
