    Push Me Pull Me Bug

A few weeks ago I spotted one of these 'shapes' on the floor and saw it move and just suspected the wind. Two days ago I spotted another moving and on closer examination came to the conclusion it was an ant pulling it along.

Tonight I saw one hanging on the wall moving again, put my strong glasses on, got a surprise and then gave myself a right work-up persuading it to become a photographic subject. I have not got a clue what it is and I'm pretty certain at one time I saw a head emerge from both ends !

The body or should I say housing is 8mm long.

Hi Graham..we have a few of those as well at my place..they seem to like walls that could possibly have damp...I have no clue what is called..but yes..the "worm" comes out both ends depending on direction instead of turning. But I gotta say!!! WOW.. That is super sharp for the size that little worm is.. If its same as ours.. The shell can only be little less than 8mm? So..that's just telling pple how small the worm is... Makes me want to try get an image or two now... I just wonder..if I'd like to try gently coaks him onto a cd or something..just to get a nice reflection.. Would that seem cruel? I dont ever mess with my insects.

    Hi Claudio,

I moved him around with a couple of palm leaves then placed him back where I found him. Placing one on a CD sounds a good idea, you'll be surprised how fast they move and I found one trick was to set up in front of the direction they are going, let them come into the frame adjusting focus as necessary and then click.

Not sure if a shell they are in it looks like something spun with sand on the outside?

Super job on the identification of these Plaster Bagworms, Claudio.

The things we can learn about the environment in which we live is fascinating!

    Hi Christina,

He sure is interesting and a good example of where macro can be used effectively to show us critters that we do not notice normally.

I'm pleased you like No 2 because one of my aims is to make some images a bit 'arty' for want of a better word

Thanks Frank, I agree with the learning part and it's a good combination when it can be done whilst enjoying a hobby.
