Sheave Tower - Blair Mill - Winter series

The last time I was in Southern Ontairo, in the fall. I did a series of shots of the sheave tower of the Blair Mill as the leaves were near their peak in the autumn. The mill (which still operates commercially, albeit without the water power) is in the former Village of Blair, which is now part of the City of Cambridge, Ontario, about an hour west of Toronto.

I was in the area again last weekend and trudged in through the snow to do a winter series. Time was tight (I could only spare about 30 minutes, it was around noon and the area was getting hit by a series of snow squalls. Hardly ideal for getting good images, but then there is always post... A little help from Kik Color Efex Pro 4 Detail Extractor let me get a bit of "pop" into the shots.

They're lovely. I particularly like the first one as you can see snow swirling and the river meandering. The waters add to a great composition

I like the winter shots best. May be because we haven't had much of a winter here yet.

Sweet series. I like 4and 5 best. Be interesting to see when trees are budding in the spring.

This is quite impressive a series.... i wanted one more non-squarish image with the castle and river alone, without that metallic bridge included

I would need a chainsaw to do that. The area is very overgrown with trees, so getting a camera angle that is not blocked by trees means some shots get taken with bridge in it.

The bridge is very nice as you presented it in #4. No need for the chain saw.

I'm hoping to do that. My daughter's college residence is perhaps 2 or 3 km / 1 or 2 miles from this site, so when we go down there, I should get a chance to shoot. Easter is later this year (latter part of April), so that will likely be my next chance to get down that way (it is about a 6-1/2 hour drive from where we live). Depending on the weather, I could either get snow or some buds on the trees.

I'm sure that the local conservation authority would not be too happy with me wielding a chainsaw in this area. I think I'll have to live with the trees and bridge where they are...

#4 for me... It shows the setting. The tower is an interesting shape and colour so will get my attention even if it is not dominating the photo.

I hope spring is a long way away - a pity we cannot wish for the same things at the same time - the northern hemisphere seems to be always out of step.

I like the second one best but it is really hard to choose as they are all great. Very unusual and interesting architecture Manfred.

You do not have winter over there, what you talking about? Northern California fare better. Last time I was passing by there, we saw snow by the creek.

I like all of them, Manfred....especially #1 and #2 because of the inclusion of the water..
