Nice one.
Nice shot B!
There are pros and cons with each method, Brian. Depends on the actual subject and conditions.
For example, I use a 'proper macro lens' for most insects but often find that a close focusing general lens (like my Tamron 24-70) gives me better results on flowers, and fungi etc.
Caterpillars are always interesting subjects, but can be difficult to photograph well due to contrasting colours and a long body which needs the correct angle to get everything in focus.
But I have successfully shot them as a perspective image, the head being sharp while the body gradually fades into the 'far distance'.
Hi Brian,
I wonder if on occasion, when your wife is not busy, if she could hold your arms close to your side to help you with stabilization. One one of my last trips my husband accompanied me and I asked him to do this for me as I didn't have my tripod with me and I was trying to photograph a wee little bird perched on a branch, and it helped me.
Nice sharp image Brian, but equally important is that you are starting to get control over the busy backgrounds and as a result this caterpillar and flower stand out very nicely!
I agree with Frank. I like the background for the same reason. Also I note that this subject is well lit, it's a bit bright on the right, but then it's difficult to get things perfect under natural conditions. However, the good illumination has result in a good, nicely focused and colourful image.

Nice one, Brian!
