    Teaching Photography

Hi, going forward on my photography venture I stopped and clicked another shot. Can you please review it and let me know what exactly is missing for it to make it much better?

I clicked it at india gate, New Delhi and i tried to use a triangle in the composition (tried to use their direction of eyes towards the camera.

Please share your views about the composition and moment captured where the guy was telling him something about the camera and other guy was listening to him carefully.

    thank you

Updated Image after suggestions by respected CIC members
    Fixes:
    1. Sharpened face and added little local contrast to give more depth in the face.
    2. Cropped little from the left and top.
    3. Removed black spot on the right
    4. Added a vignette
    5. Fixed grey tone behind camera man's head.

    Looks good to me.

Possibly not totally sharp in places. Did you use a wide aperture to blur the background which has given a very shallow depth of focus?

But you have correctly focused on their faces so I'm not really bothered about a little bit of softness to their clothing; particularly the right side figure.

I really like this image. It certainly works for me. However, I would tend to crop it just a bit tighter (eliminating some of the rather bright background) and possibly, even place a very small vignette on the image which would tend to direct the interest to the subjects...

I like it. What is behind the head of the guy not holding the camera? The shape is almost identical to his head.

Great shot Raj; it really works well for me.

I would be tempted to clone out the dark spot on the very right of the image; it's a bit too sharp to ignore. I would then add a vignette to pull the viewer's attention onto the subjects (do this for most of my images).

    Re: Teaching Photography

Nice tones and interest and good control on depth of field and those all conspire to make this quite nice for me. The triangle is more like an "X", with the forearms of the dude in the funny jacket leading down and away. I see some leading lines (arms) to center from each lower corner too.

As for crop... you've definitely got things dead center and I wonder if a square crop wouldn't work nicely here. I've been using square crops lately for some of my shots and they often seem to work well. I wonder if they violate some principle of acceptability unless for thumbnails, though. I'm too unschooled to know, but I think they can work nicely for some images.

Thank you for your kind review and feedback Yes, i have used wide aperture for shallow DOF. It was shoot at 300mm, and in the excitement I forgot to bump ISO to 1600 to get optimum shutter speed (Shot at 1/50 sec), so a little shake was there. With the sharpness i havnt sharpened the whole face but sharpened their eyes and lips and the camera. I can run "Shake reduction" for their whole face, new feature in Photoshop CC. Do i need to sharpen the whole face along with their hairs? Please share your views

I have updated the image after adding little contrast and sharpening on the face as suggested in the thread description

    Re: Teaching Photography

I would be wary of over sharpening an image like this.

By all means have a bit of experimentation with it but be aware of potential 'pixelation and halos' if you overdo any further adjustments.

Once again Thanks a lot for providing such a valuable knowledge. I will surely keep your suggestion about sharpening in mind.
