    Food shots

Well here I go getting into something new. No, food is not new to me by any means, but photographing it sure is. My sister owns a Gluten free Paleo friendly bakery and needed some photos of her new products for her advertisements and web-site with a very tight deadline. She requested close-ups of the products, these are just a couple of the shots.
    C&C most appreciated.

    Chocolate Krinkle cookie
    Food shots

    Choco-Berry Bliss cookie
    Food shots

    Vegan Cowboy cookie
    Food shots

    Snicker Doodle cookie
    Food shots

    Chocolate Warrior mix
    Food shots

Never thought I'd say this, but the vegan cookie actually looks good.

Travis, those who do it well, like yourself, make it look easy. YES, very difficult indeed.

John, the vegan cookies are fabulous and I am not a vegan or gluten free. All her products taste like the real deal or better which is hard to find in a gluten free product. She has done a lot of research and trial & error to get her recipes to the point where they taste great. I have been the test monkey for several of the failures along with the successful ones.

I agree that food is really difficult to photograph. Considering that this is your first try, you have done a remarkable job. I hope your sister appreciates you!

Notice the well defined shadows in your images (as opposed to soft shadows). To get soft shadows, move your light source closer to the subject and/or place diffusion material (tracing paper or anything other white, translucent material) between the light source and the subject.

Also check your white balance; it doesn't seem to be the same in all of your photos. It looks rather orange in the last photo and looks best to me in your second photo.

Thanks Mike. Referring the last photo, the white balance was off. I re-shot that one before I sent it to her but failed to change it here. Oops
I still have more product to shoot when I get home Thursday evening before her Friday deadline.

By the way, I ordered "THE book" before I left yesterday. I hope it will be there by the weekend.
